I would not be surprised if you told me you owned an ab wheel/ roller.

They can be bought seasonally from the middle aisle in Aldi for a fiver, and who doesn't have the intentions at some point to work on their core more?

... chuck it in the trolley on the weekly shop and more often than not, it stays in the box in the garage/ 'home gym' space.

If you're wanting to know how to make better use of it, or at least try it out - look no further!

Here are two short and super simple tutorials to get you started...

AB WHEEL PLANK

This is a great exercise to introduce you to this piece of equipment, as you are holding a position and keeping your core braced.

The main consideration is to keep your hips 'tucked', and not let your lower back arch at all during the hold - this will ensure the abs are switched on, and the lower back isn't doing the majority of the work.

Start close and for a shorter duration (~20 seconds per hold) and then gradually roll and hold further away, for an increased time (aim for 40+ seconds).

AB WHEEL ROLLOUT

I consider this a progression to the plank variation, as it does require more strength through the upper body, however you can build it up...

We're still focussing on keeping the hips tucked throughout, and same as the plank - start with shorter rolls, and increase te distance over time, as long as you can maintain the tuck!

So either get dusting off/ unboxing your ab wheel, or next time you do the shop - keep an eye out and if you've always been on the fence to buying one, now you know!

If you need any advice on how to build up to using this and getting started with training your core, give me a shout and i'm more than happy to help give you the pathway to building strength and tone!
